Summer Reading Club Resources
Public libraries in Texas are autonomous and under no obligation either to offer Summer Reading Programs or to use any particular theme. As part of the 50-state Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP), the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) is able to help interested Texas public libraries provide cost-effective summer reading programs. Working with CSLP via TSLAC helps public libraries reach the entire family since the program includes not only children's and teen elements, but also an early literacy component and an adult program.
While not all public libraries in the nation will choose to use the CSLP themes each year, those which do will use an "underground" theme in 2013, including:

Network of individuals and organizations that use dialogue and deliberation - often referred to as “deliberative forums” - to help people address challenging issues and find new ways to work on those issues together; offers training on organizing and moderating deliberative forums, discussion guides, and free workshops in communities and over the Internet
National Issues Forums
Nonpartisan nationwide network of locally sponsored public forums for the consideration of public policy issues. It is rooted in the simple notion that people need to come together to reason and talk — to deliberate about common problems; that democracy requires an ongoing deliberative public dialogue. Forums focus on an issue such as health care, immigration, Social Security, or ethnic and racial tensions and provide a way for people of diverse views and experiences to seek a shared understanding of the problem and to search for common ground for action. Forums are led by trained, neutral moderators and use an issue discussion guide that frames the issue by presenting the overall problem and then three or four broad approaches to the problem. Forum participants work through the issue by considering each approach; examining what appeals to them or concerns them, and also what the costs, consequences, and trade offs may be that would be incurred in following that approach.
Great Decisions
Centerpiece of the longest-running civic education program in the U.S. devoted to foreign affairs; empowers readers to discuss global issues shaping U.S. foreign policy and the world. A briefing book, published annually by the Foreign Policy Association, provides impartial, thought-provoking analyses on eight issues of concern to U.S. policymakers today and includes historical background, current U.S. policy and alternative policy options, informative maps and detailed graphs, suggested readings and resources, as well as opinion ballots for each topic. Opinion ballots are tabulated and the results presented in the National Opinion Ballot Report, a representative survey of readers' views on the topics. The Report is made available to members of Congress, the White House, the media and concerned citizens.
The Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration Fort Worth
ICFW offers a year-long program, which coordinates and partially funds the educational outreach programs for arts and cultural institutions in our area. The programs are offered at no cost to students or teachers. All Tarrant County schools – public and private – are invited to participate.
